Practical Project Management

TEC Transnational’s tried-and-tested 1-day Practical Project Management course and workshop will –

  • explain the principles and practices of project planning & management using examples
  • empower participants to use CPA (Critical Path Analysis) to design and optimize a project during a ‘hands-on’ workshop

The session is delivered in two modules –

Introduction to the principles and practices of project management – using a structured case study. Special attention given to –

  • CPA (Critical Path Analysis) for planning and resource allocation for the project
  • Gantt Chart for managing the project, and re-scheduling when unforeseen ‘problems’ crop up

Hands-on workshop to design and analyses a project – based on a typical organization product.Special attention given to –

  • Specifying the project activities and their ‘precedence’
  • Estimating the resources (human and physical) required for each activity
  • Mapping the project activities using a CPA diagram to show the activities that must be completed in a specific order so that the project can be accomplished successfully and on time

  • Introduction and emphasis on the need for project management
  • Determination of the project goal
  • Identifying and documenting project objectives, timescale for planning & implementation and available resources
  • Using DiSC and BELBIN methodologies to assess the proposed team members - making 'adjustments' as necessary
  • Undertaking the four key stems to develop a successful project and action plan
  • Understanding and using CPA (Critical Path Analysis)
  • Analysing the project to determine the Critical Path
  • Re-analysing the project activities to see if time-savings can be made
  • Identifying 'branches' that may have 'float'
  • Constructing a Gantt Chart
  • Conducting resource optimisation using 'floats'
  • Re-calculating the 'optimised' Critical Path
  • Managing the project using CPA and Gantt Chart

Selection of a 'typical' organization project

  • Hands-on team workshop
  • Identify all of the essential project activities
  • Estimate the times and other resources needed for each activity
  • Determine the 'precedence' among the activities
  • Construct the Critical Path Diagram
  • Calculate the times for each 'branch'
  • Determine the Critical Path and establish the total project time
  • Construct the Gantt Chart
  • Identify 'floats' and optimise the use of resources
  • Re-calculate the Critical Path - confirm all savings
  • Re-draw the Gantt Chart

Agree on how the project will be managed

      Public course

Our public courses are run at the Woodland Grange Conference Centre in Warwickshire

The course fee includes a 3-course lunch and refreshments on each training day

      Course dates
      On-site course

In-company courses may be organised at any time and are extremely cost-effective on a ‘cost-per-student’ basis. The host company is responsible for the venue costs.

We can accommodate up to 10 (maximum) delegates per session.

Quality Engineers, Production Planners, Staff responsible for new product introduction (APQP & PPAP), Managers and Process Owners.

Quality Managers with responsibility for implementing the AS9100 series of standards and AS9145

By attending this this 1-day highly interactive course and workshop participants will lean the principles and practices of project planning and control, and be able to immediately use these new skills to plan the introduction of new products and manufacturing methods – or accomplish any type of project.

All participants will receive a training certificate containing the TEC Transnational logo – confirming their understanding of project planning, analysis, optimisation and management.

Larger teams might benefit from our in-house courses. Fill out the form below and we will contact you with further details.
