Integrated Management Systems

An integrated management system (IMS) combines all related components of a business into one system for easier management and operations -

  • This can involve combining different disciplines such as Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety
  • It can also involve combining different sector-specific quality management standards such as Aerospace & Defence (AS9100), Automotive & Motorsport (TS16949) and Rail (IRIS)

In all cases ‘integrated’ means combined; putting all the internal management practices into one system but not as separate components. For these systems to be an integral part of the company's business system there have to be linkages so that the boundaries between processes are seamlessly managed and executed without duplication.

In fact the need to integrate the quality management system requirements into the organization’s business processes is a new requirement for all sector-specific standards based on ISO 9001:2015.

TEC approach the design, documentation and implementation of an IMS in three 'i' steps -

  1. We work with the management team to “identify” the organization's processes and then ascertain risks, planning of objectives and strategic measurable plans for each process, and requirements and resources tied to the process.
  2. We then “insure” the provision of support systems - resources, documentation, training, communication for operational control of the business processes.
  3. We “improve” the operational control and effectiveness by looking at the monitoring, measuring, analysis, and evaluation – as well as audits, nonconformance, corrective action, continual improvement initiatives and management reviews of each process

An integrated management system results when an organization uses one single business management system to manage multiple aspects of organizational operations and performance.

The scope of an IMS should cover the totality of the organisation’s purpose. Processes and systems and embrace quality, health, safety, environment, security, human resource, finance, marketing, public relations, etc. In fact anything that is relevant to the organisation’s mission, vision and values.
